Learn to see light from reference and apply it to a new scene. In this chapter we start with soft ambient light.
Chapter 02 - Direct Light
Learn to create direct light sources from different angles with accurate shadows and falloff.
Chapter 03 - Indirect Light
Learn to create believable bounced light. This step is usually seen as magical to new artists and is a powerful tool for realism.
Chapter 04 - Materials
Learn to see far more than local color of an object and how to paint matte, metal, ceramic, gummy and more.

Learn to add atmospheric perspective through fog as well as how to use textures for complex materials.

What You'll Learn
Learn the Art of Extraction
Bridging the gap between art that is just copying and art that is all from imagination, the craft of extraction allows you to observe the essence of light from a reference and then fit it into your own original paintings from imagination. I believe in this skill so strongly and have found that artists have gained so much from this one simple skill.
Painting Techniques
Being able to paint realistic materials from imagination is just hard. I will demonstrate processes that allow for maximum understanding of light to make your paintings as believable as possible. Instead of thinking two dimensionally, I will teach you to think about light sources in three dimensions and show how to paint it more light a visual effects compositor.
Advanced Understanding Light and Shadow
Students learn more about the interplay between light and shadow, hard and soft shadows, direct and indirect specular, subsurface scattering, and more.
Practical Exercises for Skill Development
Through practical assignments, such as painting scenes with varying light sources or creating artwork based on imagination and extraction, students apply what they've learned in a hands-on manner to cement their skills.
