What You'll Learn

Composition

To me Composition is not a series of rules, but rather tools to draw the audience's eye to the focal point of the shot. I will demonstrate how to use camera, perspective, lens and more to craft a compelling image with a strong story.

Character Lighting

In Painting Light 102 the goal was believable light. Now the goal is strong lighting that really helps the viewer to understand clearly what they are looking at in all of its three dimensional glory. Since characters are the most common subject matter in shot I'll tach you lessons I learned on movie sets for how to craft the light for the best shape and form.

Advanced Cinematography

Learn how to put light into environments in a way that supports a story. It's not about making it pretty, but about making it easily understandable with a strong mood. Of course we'll also make it pretty, but with a story-first approach. I will share my years of experience from making movies and games and all of the tricks and tips that are not often taught in school but only on the job.

Multi-shot lighting

Learn to not only paint still images or single illustrations, but how to plan entire sequences with consistent and emotional lighting. Painting color scripts and color keys is not something that is widely understood, so i will delve deep into how it's done.
